A chilly early morning in Bolzano (Italy) gave way to a beautiful sunshine and perfect conditions to set the stage for the second round of the Jokerteam 2017 GT12 Championship. The newly designed track delivered once again optimal grip and drivers took their time during free practice to familiarize and learn the best lines to run counterclockwise as contemplated in the calendar of this year’s Championship for round 2.
Once the qualification rounds got under way, Mattia Dall’Oca (Team Schumacher) made immediately clear that he was once again the man to beat, TQing all three rounds and delivering an impressive 29-lap run in Q3. Nevertheless Ivan Milesi (Treerremodellismo) opposed a fierce resistance by driving with remarkable pace and thus securing P2 for the A-mains, just ahead of team-mate Alessandro Rampini (Treerremodellismo). Behind the top three drivers, the battle to secure P4 on the grid for the finals was a very close fight among four Jokerteam drivers: Johnny Orsolin, Claudio Giovanelli, Alessandro Giubbilei and Lorenzo Crepaldi all drove within a gap of less than 2 seconds.
As the finals kicked off in the early afternoon, Mattia delivered a faultless drive in A1 marking, in the same run, the best lap of the day in 12.076 seconds. But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Team Schumacher driver as Ivan showed consistency and speed that allowed him to get closer in A2 and finally top A3. Johnny Orsolin wrapped up the podium with solid runs in all three finals. Coming up next, Round 3, on May 14th.
