Flowood R/C Indoor Park is proud to announce the 2015 Bring The Heat event. This year’s race will be held September 12-14, with attendance from Adam and Ronda Drake, Ryan Lutz, Richard Saxton, and more. There is a 300 driver paid entry limit, and the list is expected to fill fast!
Flowood R/C Indoor Park is the first and only city owned permanent indoor off road remote control race track in the United States. Bubba Barham discovered the city had a gymnastics building that was vacant and slated to be torn down to make way for a road. Bubba approached the city Board of Aldermen about building a city owned indoor off road track. He agreed to run it if the city would do it. “I had no expectations, I never thought they would do it” Bubba was given two weeks to put together a business plan and present it to the city. When he went into city hall on a Monday night to make his presentation, he was told he had 6 minutes with the board, make it good. “I had typed up a business plan and had copies for each of the Aldermen and the Mayor. My 6 minutes turned into an hour and a half. They agreed to do it. That was five years ago. We have been in the black all five years and FRC has had a huge economic impact on the city. In addition to the special event races and club races, we do kids birthday parties on Sunday afternoon. We have done 380 of them and have taken in over $75,000 in party fees.”
Bubba goes on to say, “Flowood R/C Indoor Park is one of the finest indoor off road remote control race tracks in the country. The ventilation is super , so we run nitro and electric, 1/8 and 1/10 classes. The track is 125 feet wide by 100 deep. The drivers stand is 30ft long, 10ft off the ground. There are pit tables inside to accommodate approximately 150 people. There is a handicap lift next to the driver stand.
I have seen many changes over the past five years. We are 10 to 1 electric over nitro now and it was just the opposite when we opened 5 years ago. I hate to see it, but more and more people are running 1/8 electric classes and getting away from 1/10. We hold two big events per year. January Jam and Bring The Heat are our two big events. We had 300 entries for January Jam. Bring The Heat 6 is scheduled for September 11-13 this year. So far Adam and Ronda Drake will be returning for the sixth time. Ryan Lutz was here for January Jam and is coming back for BTH. Richard “The King” Saxton is making his first appearance at FRC this year and we are excited about having him come. We will cut the entries off at 300 paid.
We have changed a lot of the classes for this years event. More and more people are running electric and more and more are running 1/8 electric. We have two classes of Electric Truggy, Expert and Sportsman. We feel like this is where it is headed for our facility. We only have one 1/10 class and that is 4wd SCT.
If you have never been to FRC, I hope you will come join us. It will be a treat, I assure you. The track is always awesome and you can’ t beat the hospitality. Don’t wait, go ahead and sign up. We have approximately 35 sponsors for Bring The Heat. All donated product will go to the racers. If you sign up but can’t make it, FRC will refund your money. Come join us on the finest indoor off road race track in the USA.”
