Following a two month break, the Euro Offroad Series resumes this weekend (March 27-29) with Round 3 of the 1:10 Offroad Championship taking drivers to Wels in Austria. For the second year running the EOS will run as part of Austria’s largest modelsport show ‘Modellbau Wels’ with show organisers this year placing the indoor track in one of the Messe Wels newly constructed entrance halls. In term of the racing action, the event marks a important stage in the championship in terms of determining who the title contenders will be and there will be a lot of attention around the championship’s most successful driver Joern Neumann as the Round 2 4WD winner makes his EOS debut with Serpent.

The winner of 11 of the 13 events held since the established of the championship in 2012, the undefeated 4WD Champion will be hoping to build on his current points lead by giving Serpent their first ever win this weekend as he partners back up with former Durango team-mate Hupo Honigl. Making his Serpent debut at Round 2 in Berlin in January, Honigl will be hoping his home race can bring him his first podium finish of Season #4 having finished 3rd in 2WD at last years event.
Enjoying his first win for Yokomo with a dominant performance in Berlin putting himself at the top of the 2WD points table, Lee Martin will be looking to continue that form in Wels. Last year the Japanese manufacturer claimed its first EOS title with Naoto Matsukura and a good result in 2WD on Saturday would position Martin perfectly to successful defend that for his team. Again Martin will have the support of Shin Adachi who makes the trip over from Japan and who himself will be looking to put his buggies in both A-Mains.

Securing a podium on the debut of their new XB2 buggy at the previous round, Xray’s challenge will again be headed by Martin Bayer. Having missed the A-Main cut at the season opener the Czech driver will be hoping another good result this weekend will put in contention for his first shot at the 2WD title which would be decided at Xray’s own Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia which hosts the season finale in May. Impressing in both 2WD and 4WD at Round 2, Bayer’s team-mate Martin Wollanka should be one to watch at his home event.

Runner-up to Martin in 2WD last time out when he made his championship debut as a factory HB driver at Round 2, David Ronnefalk will be determined to go one better this time round and secure his first ever EOS win. Also making the 4WD podium with his D413, the Swede can as always be expected to be fast and having had more time with the cars since the last EOS should be more comfortable at the controls.

Elsewhere Team Associated will aim to build on very encouraging Berlin performances from Patrick Hofer and emerging Norwegian talent Joakim Nicolaisen who each made both A-Mains. Schumacher will have an expanded team presence with former European Champion Peter Pinisch making his EOS debut for the British manufacturer joining team leader Michal Orlowski and Round 2 A-Main finalist Simon Moss.
