Round 4 of the Lap Paradise Off Road League was held this past weekend with drivers going through three rounds of qualification and then moving in to finals Christmas tree finals. Lower finals were run for 25 minutes with the main being a 60-minute affair.
Ben Panic (Kyosho/OS/JConcepts) took TQ after 3 rounds of 10-minute qualifiers. Drivers bumped out of quarters and then in to the semis, all-aiming for a top 7 spot to move to the main. Semi B was won by Daniel Law (Losi/Hope/James), MAX Racing driver CK Lee closely followed him as they made their way through to the main. Semi A was a lot more interesting. Ben Panic got off to a flyer and by lap four was passing traffic. Back markers got caught in front of him and as he was passing them he got hit and his car flamed. Boy Chan (Serpent/Reds/Pro Circuit) inherited the lead and would go on to win Semi A. Ben dropped to thirteenth but with enough time on the clock he drove a storming last fifteen minutes to finish fourth.
The final got underway and Ah Boy and David Aw (HN/RB/James) led the field closely followed by Ben. These three broke away and had a great battle for the first few minutes. David and Ben stretched a gap to Ah Boy and for the next fifteen minutes they raced hard and cleanly as they passed on track and in the pits. Ben went past David after the second round of stops and pulled away. Their battle had been so close and fast that they had more than half a lap lead on the field. For Ben this gap grew as he put down fast laps. By the thirty-minute mark he had managed to put two laps on the field. Then his race was over. A broken front arm from an innocuous landing on the left front saw him depart the driver’s stand. Not long after him Ah Boy was also out. The front-runners had issues and David Aw capitalized. Running fast all main he took the lead. Ah Leng (Mugen/OS/AKA) was a lap from him in second however right on his bumper was CK Lee. The MAX driver with his new Mugen was showing excellent pace. Unfortunately for CK the DNF gods were also looking at him. A blown conrod ended his day. Kenny Chin wheeled his car (SWorkz Evo/RB/AKA) to the final podium spot and that saw the end to an exciting main.
