Sanwa team driver Robert Pietsch was in top shape and defended his 2010 title at the EFRA 1/8 Onroad Euros in Vila Real / Portugal, ahead of Lamberto Collari. Both top drivers relied on the Sanwa Exzes-X.
The huge track in Vila Real was host of this year’s EFRA 1/8 Offroad Championship. Speed and power were the decisive factors on this long track – and the choice of good tyres, as the surface is very demanding on tyres. Weather conditions were good, it was not too hot.
80 drivers attended the race. From the beginning, it was a duel between Robert Pietsch and Lamberto Collari. It was Robert who had the best setup in qualification. Consequently, the German top driver took TQ ahead of multiple World Champions Lamberto Collari and Daniele Ielasi.
The 45 minutes final saw a battle between Dario Balestri (starting position 5), Collari and Pietsch. These three drivers controlled the rest of the field. In their struggle for the title, the three protagonists choose completely different pitting strategies. The German decided for 3 stops in minutes 11, 22 and 33. Collari drove only once into the pit lane, Balestri twice.
Robert’s strategy was risky as he was forced to show an absolutely error-free performance. He had to re-conquer the top position after every pit stop. Additionally, Robert had to gain advantage on his pursuers, in order to not loosing too much on the two Italian competitors. To cut a long story short: Robert’s strategy succeeded. Due to his perfect driving, he was able to re-conquer the lead after every stop. Only in the last 2 minutes, he had to let Lamberto pass. But in the decisive moment, Robert was there to overtake Lamberto and win the race by 2 seconds on Lamberto. Dario Balestri finished third, one lap behind.
The old and new European Champion trusted in Sanwa’s transmitter technology again. He uses the Sanwa Exzes-X FHSS 2.4GHz transmitter. Robert is one of only a few German drivers who rely on a stick radio. Since 2009, he won two Euros and one World Championship with this radio.
In addition, Robert Pietsch trusted in the Sanwa RX-451R receiver and the HVS-ZS high-speed servo. Combined with the Sanwa Exzes-X, this was the perfect package for a quick and precise response in every race situation. The German top driver powered his transmitter with the LRP VTEC LiPo 2400 battery, charged by the Quadra Pro 3.
Lamberto Collari – Robert’s toughest competitor during the last years – also relies on the Sanwa Exzes-X. The Italian top driver can already look back on multiple World Championship titles – e.g. at the 2010 1/8 Onroad Worlds.
