Robert Pietsch takes the WC Title

“Mission accomplished – finally! Robert wins the 1/8 Onroad World Championship. In the third try, Robert wins the prestigious 1/8 Nitro Onroad World Championship. With him on the podium: LRP and Sanwa. Host of the biennial World Championship was Homestead near Miami. 127 drivers had registered for the fight for this highly prestigious title. The international elite of 1/8 onroad drivers was racing: 9 times World Champion Lamberto Collari, Dario Balestri and Daniele Ielasi from Italy, the Japanese top drivers Atsushi Hara, Takaaki Shimo und Keisuke Fukuda and the US stars Ralph Burch and Mike Swauger. Nevertheless, acting European Champion Robert Pietsch from Germany was one of the favourites.

In the final, everybody at the track was taken by the highly thrilling race. The spectators could see a tough fighting on the 300m long track of the Homestead RC Raceway, but none of the top drivers managed to stand out from the other favourites. Choosing the right strategy proved to be of highest importance. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the struggle for the title was decided late in the final. The lead changed several times and no driver was able to defend it for more than some rounds. Pit stops to re-fuel the cars and to change the tyres resulted in various position changes on top of the field. The longer the race, the smaller the number of possible winners got. One of them was Robert, keeping up with the top drivers for the whole race, despite the tough track layout.”
