Tanaka takes title from Hara

Neo Buggy reports – “This year’s 2010 Japanese Nationals saw reigning World Champion Atsushi Hara set the pace as he Topped qualifying; as 3x consecutive Japanese champion he was the man to beat. Qualifying in 2nd was Kyosho/RB driver Kazuya Tanaka – winner of last year’s Kyosho Masters in Japan, and 2nd place finisher at last year’s Japanese Nationals. We understand that there was some rain prior to the main final making tyre strategy critical as conditions would gradually change as the final progressed. Tanaka was one of the leading drivers that opted to pit and switch to slick tyres, which work at this track. It proved an inspired decision as the track surface dried out and got faster he was taking lapping 5 secs quicker than the field – putting him in the lead which he held onto win, a sign that Tanaka has stepped up a gear after knocking on the door for the past two years. His first Japanese nationals will surely elevate his status within the Japanese team heading to the Worlds in 10 days and strengthens Japan’s bid to retain the World Championship crown.”
