“The return of the greatest offroad racing spectacle! Legendary R/C pioneer Mike Reedy had a dream—to gather the best racers from around the world and put on an event like none other. In hiatus since 1999, his dream returns this week. The Reedy International Offroad Race of Champions returns to one of Mike’s favorite venues, the world-famous Yatabe Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The event takes place over the weekend of February 28–March 1, 2009. Most racers know of the Reedy Touring Car Race Of Champions; however, this unique format of racing actually began in 1:10 electric offroad. Combining multiple heats of heads-up racing in 2WD and 4WD buggy, the driver that scores the lowest amount of points (1 point for first place, 2 points for second, etc.) will be crowned the champion. Former drivers include World Champions Mark Pavidis, Masami Hirosaka, Billy Easton, and Brian Kinwald, to name a few.
This year, top racers—including World Champions Ryan Cavalieri, Hayato Matsuzaki, and Naoto Matsukura—will compete against other internationally decorated drivers like Ryan Maifield, Shinnosuke Adachi, and Jörn Neumann. Due to the short organization time and long travel distance for many top racers, the event doesn’t have the usual deep field of drivers; however, with a few tweaks to the traditional format, whoever comes out on top will be a deserved champion.
The event can be experienced via LiveRC.com with multiple camera angles, interviews, and the most exciting announcer on the planet, Scotty Ernst, calling the action. There will also be updates via Team Associated’s live event coverage at AssociatedLive.com.
This year’s event marks the return of a dream and the intention is to continue the tradition for years to come. Keep your race calendar open for the 2010 Reedy International Race of Champions and maybe, just maybe, the spectacle will come to a location near you …” [Our thanks go to Team Associated for this news]
